Coast of Maratea
Italy's Most Beautiful Coast
All of our weddings in Italy are
located on Italy's most beautiful and unspoiled coast
- the perfect wedding destination.
The
Coast of Maratea & The Cilento is a unique and awesome collage of
blue seas, high coastal mountains, 3000 years of Greek and
Roman history, and, of course, genuine Italian
regional cuisine and wines, and fun resort towns. It is perfect for
any type of wedding in Italy - civil, religious, outdoor.
It is one of the few regions where the mayors
will perform ceremonies at the venue of your choice.

Photo Overview Coast of Maratea and the Cilento National
Park.
The coast of Maratea is becoming
renown as the perfect wedding Italy venue. The
pristine coast is a fifteen mile stretch renown
for its rugged mountains and cliffs soaring abruptly for
thousands of feet from the rocks and beaches of
the Mediterranean. It is an area known for its
serpentine cornice road carved high into its sea and
cypress tree lined cliffs, edged with a blue blue sea.
The coast of Maratea is home to some of Italy's finest
coastal and hill-town hotels - all of them in
dramatic and romantic settings - perfect for
any Wedding Italy.
Towns and
villages of great interest are Maratea, Acquafredda,
Fiumicello, and the Port of Maratea.
Maratea is an
ancient and wonderful hillside resort village.
Although small, it is remarkably known for its 44
churches. The old town of Maratea cascades down
the mountain-side to Europe's most stunning coastline.
At the bottom of the town, is the Port of Maratea, home
of fine yachts and luxury boats, which provides a
beautiful setting for sipping a cappuccino, wine, or
having a relaxing time.
Acquafredda, a
sleepy village sublimely nestled between sea and high
mountain peaks, embodies the best of an Italian
hill-town; the best of an Italian sea-side
village; and, surprisingly, the gentility and
tranquility of an English country village with its
vibrant flower gardens and tree lined streets. A
stroller's dream.
Fiumicello, on
the sea surrounded by the mountains and the town of
Maratea, is simply "chic" - its white houses, expensive
boutiques, fine restaurants, and the five star
Santavenere famous for its pampering and summer time
jazz concerts. Sit, sip champagne and soak-up fine
concerts.
The
Santavenere, a five
star luxury hotel, has now become one of the more
popular
wedding Italy venues.
Weddings in Italy
- Unlike most wedding companies that attempt to
manage Weddings all over Italy, Slow Dreams
focuses entirely on the Coast of Maratea and The
Cilento. We focus here because:
-
It has, by
far, the least restrictions on getting married.
There is no minimum stay required, such as in the
Amalfi, Tuscany, and the great cities.
Outdoor weddings are allowed, both civil and
religious (but, not Catholic).
-
We are based
here, so we have the "local knowledge" that, we
strongly believe, is imperative to successful
wedding management, especially in a somewhat unruly
and at times chaotic country as Italy.
-
It is
stunningly (no hyperbole) beautiful - it
has blue seas, high mountains and soaring cliffs,
beaches, quaint fishing villages, fairly tale
hill-towns. It is perfect a wedding in
Italy.

Overview of Main Towns & Areas
I-Map of Region
The region's
compelling natural and architectural beauty, ancient way
of life, and history are splendidly testified to and
continually protected by the designations of the United
Nations (UNESCO) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
UNESCO "World
Heritage Sites" and WWF protected sites "Oasis" include
among others "The Cilento National Park" (Italy's second
largest park), The 2500 year old Greek Temples of
Paestum (featuring the temples of Hera, Cerere and
Nettuno), The Grottos at Morigerati
(enormous caverns sculpted by the river Bussento), the
Gole Del Calore di Fellito (a
nature reserve), and Persano (beautiful wetlands and
walks)
-
see photographs below.
The richness of
this region is too great for us to do justice for all
parts, so we have focused lightly
on a few areas that offer world
class sites for
romance,
fine accommodations,
weddings,
receptions,
places to see,
and
things to do (even fun
things):
Paestum and Castellabate
- Paestum has three glorious Greek temples --
a must see even for those with no interest in
history or architecture. Paestum is bordered
by fine long beaches, ancient vineyards, and rich
olive and orange groves. The Castellabate area is
home to some of the last Italian royalty (a prince
and baron - in fact, Slow Dreams'
Very Special Places
for weddings and accommodations include the prince's
home
"Palazzo Vicino San Marco").
The area boasts beaches of the finest golden sands,
and Roman hill towns and medieval ports.
Sapri and Scario
- famous for the pristine fishing village of
Scario, and its well preserved ancient ways of
living and culture. Here, there is also
the shopping and market centers of Sapri.
Palinuro and Marina di
Camerota
- Great cliff protected beaches and resort
towns dominate this area.
Pollino National Park
- One of Italy's great wilderness areas.
8000 feet mountains and their wolves make Pollino an
extremely special park.
